Smokers believe that light cigarettes are not as harmful as “regular” or “full flavor” cigarettes, so they choose “low tar”, “soft” or “light” cigarettes because they think they are less harmful. More women than men smoke these types of cigarettes, mainly due to advertising directed at women, but they are no better than the usual ones.
But you can argue that light and menthol cigarettes feel softer and lighter on the throat and chest, so the lights should be healthier than usual, right? Incorrect. Less  E cigarette than 10 percent of smokers know that a light cigarette produces the same amount of tar as a regular cigarette.
Light cigarettes supply smokers with the same amount of tar, nicotine and carbon monoxide as “regular” and “full flavor” cigarettes. Many people who switch from regular cigarettes to light or low tar cigarettes “compensate” for the lower nicotine level by inhaling harder, taking larger and more frequent puffs, or increasing the number of cigarettes smoked per day.
The reality about “light” cigarettes is that they do not reduce the health risks of smoking. The only way to reduce your risk, and the risk to those around you, is to completely quit smoking. How about menthol cigarettes? In a controversial study by Harvard researchers, flatly denied by a tobacco industry spokesperson. Reports say that cigarette manufacturers are regulating the level of menthol in cigarettes to appeal to younger smokers and keep older ones hooked.
According to some experts, they believe that the regulated level of menthol in cigarettes makes smoking easier for young smokers to tolerate and also increases nicotine addiction. Some evidence suggests that menthol cigarette smokers have a more difficult time quitting, and some research suggests they may have a higher relapse rate once they try to quit. As you can see, light and menthol cigarettes are no better than regular cigarettes and studies have shown that 50% of “light” cigarette smokers are less likely to quit. Smokers have been guided by the myth that light cigarettes are less harmful than regular cigarettes, giving them a false sense of security.
